What is Shogi365?
Tsume shogi is the checkmate puzzle of Japanese chess. Every move by the attacker must give check, and the king must be mated in exactly the number of moves given. Shogi players have trained their endgame this way for centuries, usually with a small book and a lot of staring.
Shogi365 puts 4,000 of these puzzles on your phone, 1,000 each at mate in 3, 5, 7 and 9. Instead of reading the answer, you play it. Any check can be made, right or wrong, and the defending king answers on its own, so a wrong idea fails on the board the way it would in a real game.
It follows the same design as Sudoku365: one puzzle a day, a streak to keep, and a few minutes that fit on a train or before bed.

- A line that runs out without mate fails. Try again, up to three times
- Drop pawn mate and double pawns are illegal, and forced promotions are respected
