Who Is Kinder Paint For?

Every app is built with someone in mind. Kinder Paint was built for a very specific someone: our own 3-year-old. That origin shaped everything about it, and it also makes the question “is this app for my family?” easy to answer honestly. Here is who we think Kinder Paint serves best, and a candid note on who it may not.

Toddlers and Preschoolers, Ages 2 to 6

Kinder Paint is a drawing app for children ages 2 to 6 on iPhone and iPad. That age range is not a marketing label. It is the design constraint behind every screen.

The interface is super-simple, so a child who cannot yet read can still find their way around. One-tap fill and shape tools remove the mechanical chores that frustrate small hands, so a 2-year-old’s scribbles and a 6-year-old’s careful compositions are both well served. Five canvases (Drawing, Paint, Sketch, Manga, and Dot) grow with the child, from free painting to pixel-style dot art, and seven realistic brushes with 48 colors across three palettes give even young artists a genuine range of expression.

For children who enjoy a little guidance, Paint Academy offers tracing lessons that lead little hands stroke by stroke. For children who just want to make marks, the canvas is always one tap away.

Parents Who Want Safe, Ad-Free Creative Screen Time

Many parents are not against screen time itself. They are against what often comes with it. If you want your child’s time on a device to be creative rather than passive, and free of the things you would rather not explain to a preschooler, Kinder Paint was built for you too.

The app has no ads, no accounts, and works entirely offline. Nothing interrupts a drawing session, nothing asks for a sign-up, and nothing requires a connection you have to supervise. It is built around three pillars, namely safety, comfort, and expressive power, and the ad-free choice sits at the center of the first one. When your child is drawing, they are only drawing.

Finished work saves quickly to the camera roll, so screen time ends with something you can keep: an actual drawing, made by your actual child.

Montessori-Minded Families

Kinder Paint was developed under the guidance of an AMI Montessori teacher, and families drawn to Montessori ideas will recognize the fingerprints. The app trusts children to work independently: the environment is simple and calm, the tools are realistic rather than toy-like, and there is no system of rewards or interruptions steering the child’s attention. A child chooses a canvas, chooses a brush, and works.

Kinder Paint is deliberately focused. It is not a professional illustration tool, and it is not aimed at older kids who want complex features. It is a first canvas for ages 2 to 6.
